SC CONTEMPORARY
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING, DELIVERY AND CUSTOMS POLICY

Last updated: July 28, 2026

This policy applies to original artworks purchased from SC Contemporary.

1. AVAILABLE SHIPPING DESTINATIONS

SC Contemporary ships internationally only to destinations made available through the website checkout or separately confirmed in writing.

Shipping destinations are selected according to:

• international tracking reliability;
• customs transparency;
• carrier availability;
• delivery-risk management;
• predictable shipping costs; and
• suitability for transporting original artwork.

Orders from destinations not available at checkout may be reviewed individually.

Additional shipping costs, customs risks, size restrictions, or longer delivery periods may apply. Shipping to an unlisted destination is not guaranteed.

Certain additional destinations may be available only for eligible paper artworks that can be shipped by K-Packet.

2. SHIPPING ORIGIN

Original artworks are dispatched from the Republic of Korea.

Some artworks are stored at the artist’s studio and must first be transferred to SC Contemporary for condition review, documentation, and international repackaging.

3. PROCESSING AND PREPARATION TIME

Each order may require:

• artist coordination and availability confirmation;
• transfer of the artwork;
• condition inspection;
• pre-shipment photography and documentation;
• preparation of the Certificate of Authenticity;
• secure handling;
• specialist packaging or repackaging;
• preparation of customs and export documents; and
• carrier booking.

Unless otherwise stated on the product page, please allow up to seven business days after confirmed payment for preparation before international dispatch.

Some artworks held directly by SC Contemporary may be dispatched sooner.

The preparation period is separate from the international transit period.

4. SHIPPING CHARGES

Any shipping charge payable by the customer will be displayed at checkout or agreed in writing before the order is accepted.

Additional shipping charges may apply to oversized artworks, destinations not available at checkout, or special delivery services.

Shipping included in the artwork price does not include:

• customs duties;
• import VAT or GST;
• destination-country sales or use taxes;
• customs-clearance charges;
• brokerage charges;
• carrier advancement or disbursement fees;
• customs inspection or storage charges;
• charges caused by delayed customs cooperation;
• return charges caused by refusal of delivery; or
• optional additional insurance requested by the buyer.

Where an exceptional destination, oversized package, or special shipping service requires an additional payment, SC Contemporary will obtain the customer’s approval before dispatch.

5. SHIPPING METHODS

SC Contemporary selects the shipping method according to:

• artwork type and medium;
• artwork dimensions;
• packed dimensions;
• weight;
• destination-country postal limits;
• declared value;
• insurance requirements; and
• transportation risk.

The principal shipping services are:

• K-Packet for eligible paper artworks;
• Korea Post EMS for eligible artworks within the applicable postal limits; and
• DHL Express for oversized, higher-value, or postal-limit-exceeding artworks.

The applicable shipping method and shipping format will be stated on the product page or communicated before dispatch.

6. PAPER ARTWORKS

Paper artworks may be shipped flat or rolled according to their dimensions, packed dimensions, weight, destination, and safe-handling requirements.

Eligible smaller paper artworks are generally shipped flat in reinforced protective packaging using K-Packet.

Eligible rolled paper artworks may also be sent by K-Packet where the packed tube remains within the applicable postal limits.

Where a rolled package exceeds K-Packet limits, EMS will generally be used.

Where the package exceeds the destination country’s EMS size limit, DHL Express will be used.

For certain destinations, including Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and Denmark, very large rolled works may exceed EMS size limits and therefore require DHL Express.

Additional K-Packet-only destinations are limited to paper artworks that can be shipped within the applicable K-Packet size and weight restrictions.

EMS or DHL shipping is not automatically available to those additional destinations unless SC Contemporary expressly agrees otherwise.

7. CANVAS AND STRETCHED ARTWORKS

Eligible stretched artworks may be shipped using Korea Post EMS where the final packed dimensions and weight comply with the applicable destination-country limits.

For canvases measuring up to approximately 91 cm on the longest side, where the final packed shipment exceeds the applicable EMS size limit, SC Contemporary may offer either:

• stretched shipping using DHL Express; or
• removal of the canvas from its stretcher and rolled shipping in a protective tube.

Where rolled shipping is offered as a lower-cost alternative, any applicable price adjustment will be communicated before dispatch.

Very large canvases measuring approximately 100 cm or more on the longest side will generally be shipped rolled using DHL Express because transporting them while stretched involves substantially higher shipping costs and a greater risk of damage, customs complications, or return.

The final shipping method is determined by the artwork’s actual dimensions, format, thickness, packed dimensions, weight, destination, and applicable carrier restrictions.

Where rolled shipping applies, this will be stated on the product page or confirmed with the customer before dispatch.

9. TOTAL ESTIMATED DELIVERY PERIOD

The total estimated delivery period consists of:

• preparation time of up to seven business days; plus
• the applicable international transit period.

For example:

• an eligible European EMS order may require approximately 14–21 business days in total; and
• an eligible European DHL order may require approximately 9–11 business days in total.

Actual delivery may be faster or slower depending on the artwork, destination, customs process, and local carrier conditions.

10. DELIVERY DELAYS

International shipments may be delayed by circumstances outside the reasonable control of SC Contemporary, including:

• customs inspection or clearance;
• requests for additional import documents;
• public holidays;
• local courier capacity;
• carrier operational delays;
• peak seasonal shipping volume;
• airline schedule changes;
• adverse weather;
• natural disasters;
• government regulations;
• security reviews;
• labour disruption;
• public-health events;
• incorrect or incomplete delivery information;
• delayed customs cooperation;
• unpaid import charges; or
• failed delivery attempts.

A normal customs, carrier, or external delay does not by itself automatically create a right to cancellation, refund, or compensation.

Nothing in this section limits a right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including rights that may arise where delivery is not completed within a legally required or specifically agreed period.

11. CUSTOMS DUTIES, VAT, GST, AND CLEARANCE FEES

Unless expressly agreed otherwise, the buyer is the importer of record.

The buyer is responsible for destination-country charges, including:

• customs duties;
• import VAT or GST;
• local sales or use taxes;
• customs-clearance charges;
• brokerage charges;
• carrier advancement or disbursement fees;
• permit charges;
• inspection fees;
• storage fees; and
• other import-related charges imposed by customs authorities or carriers.

These charges are not included in the artwork price or shipping cost unless SC Contemporary expressly states otherwise.

Original artworks may qualify for an original-artwork customs classification such as HS 9701.

However, the final customs classification, taxable value, duty rate, tax rate, and applicable fees are determined by the destination country’s customs authority.

A customs-duty rate of zero does not mean that no import VAT, GST, local tax, brokerage fee, or clearance fee will be charged.

SC Contemporary cannot determine or guarantee the final amount imposed by the destination country.

12. CUSTOMS COOPERATION

The buyer is responsible for:

• providing the correct recipient name and delivery address;
• providing a valid telephone number and email address;
• monitoring carrier and customs communications;
• supplying identification, proof of payment, tax information, or other requested documents;
• paying applicable duties, taxes, and charges promptly; and
• completing required import procedures.

Failure to cooperate may result in:

• delivery delay;
• storage charges;
• administrative charges;
• return shipping;
• redelivery charges;
• seizure;
• abandonment; or
• destruction of the shipment.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, direct costs and losses resulting from the buyer’s refusal or failure to complete import procedures may be deducted from a refund or charged to the buyer.

13. CUSTOMS INSPECTION

International shipments may be opened, inspected, held, or repackaged by customs, security, or government authorities.

SC Contemporary has no control over official inspections, security checks, temporary holding procedures, or government-imposed delays.

Official opening, inspection, or minor alteration of packaging does not by itself constitute shipping damage.

Actual physical damage to the artwork must be reported under the Return, Refund, Shipping Damage, Restoration and Re-creation Policy.

14. REFUSED OR UNCOLLECTED SHIPMENTS

The buyer must not refuse delivery solely to avoid customs duties, VAT, GST, brokerage fees, or other import charges.

Where a shipment is refused, not collected, or returned because the buyer failed to respond to the carrier or customs authority, the buyer may be responsible for:

• outbound shipping;
• return shipping;
• customs charges;
• storage charges;
• brokerage or administrative fees;
• redelivery charges; and
• other direct costs resulting from the failed delivery.

Any refund will be considered only after the artwork has been safely returned to SC Contemporary and inspected.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the refund may be reduced by direct costs and losses caused by the buyer’s failure to complete the import or delivery process.

A refund may not be available where the artwork is abandoned, seized, destroyed, or materially damaged because the buyer failed or refused to complete the required customs or delivery procedure, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

15. TRACKING

A shipping confirmation will be sent after dispatch.

Where available, it will include:

• the carrier;
• the tracking number;
• the dispatch date; and
• the estimated transit period.

The customer is responsible for monitoring tracking and responding promptly to carrier or customs communications.

16. SHIPPING DAMAGE

Customers should photograph the unopened outer package and shipping label before opening the shipment.

Visible shipping damage should be reported to SC Contemporary within twenty-four hours after delivery.

All outer and internal packaging must be retained.

The evidence, responsibility, and resolution procedure is stated in the Return, Refund, Shipping Damage, Restoration and Re-creation Policy.

17. RETURNS AND REFUNDS

Returns, statutory cancellation rights, refunds, restoration, re-creation, and shipping-damage claims are governed by SC Contemporary’s Return, Refund, Shipping Damage, Restoration and Re-creation Policy.
